Nowadays, when everything you can buy online, it is crucial how your products show on the internet, whether you are selling them online or not. People want to check the product images on your e-shops or even the posts on social media. The right photo can trigger customers to buy or be interested in the items.
An apparel or product shooting always involves a lot of people, like photographers, models, stylists, graphic editors, etc. If there are huge mistakes, it can waste time and money to re-shoot or ask a graphic designer to edit by photoshop. Everyone has to have good communication at the scene.
So as a product specialist or a fashion influencer, it is essential to take beautiful pictures of products to promote brands. One of the things you can help with is making sure the products are excellent to present in front of the customers.
It is common to shoot by flat lay, put clothing on the mannequins or wear on models, and these 4 tips may help make this shooting goes well.
1. Make sure there are no stains and wrinkles on clothes.
I first went to the studio to shoot a series of men’s suits, and I had no experience knowing what I should check during the photo shooting. So when I showed photos to the client, he was a bit mad to complain about the wrinkles on the clothing. Fortunately, the graphic designer helped photoshop those drawbacks in the pictures. For everyone’s sake, try as much as possible to confirm that the fabric is neat and clean no matter on models, mannequins, or the table.
2. Check the colour of clothes with photographers.
It is impossible not to receive customer complaints about the colour difference between pictures and factual articles. And sometimes, the light in the studio or outside can make the colour too vibrant or fade, which may make it worse. However, you can check the monitor at the scene to see if the colour between the pictures and the real clothing is different.
Also, professional photographers will use a colour checker to ensure no significant discrepancy between the actual clothing and pictures.
3. Show the details on the garments.
Another important of clothing shots is remembering all pictures to capture the details you want customers to see—the delicate embroidery, soft texture, functional zips or pockets, etc.
If a model is wearing your product, remember to ask them to pose the gesture the way you want to show the garment. For example, if you want to show the fabric’s resilience, you can ask them to do some poses about stretching their bodies.
4. Remember to remove or hide safe pins or anything you don’t want to show in pictures.
You can ask graphic designers to remove them, but it will be the most efficient way to watch out for these small tricks during photo shootings. Also, if you are doing a flat lay shooting, ensure the position of the hangers or other clothes pegs can easily photo edit. For example, you can put the clothes pegs of the skirt hanger on the inside of the trouser, so it won’t affect to remove the hanger from the photo.
There are still a lot of details you should be aware of before the shooting or during the shooting. Whether sleeves should be folded up or not, and how many buttons are on the clothes. However, the most important thing is checking what apparel pictures you want and which way to show your products. The devil is in the details.
