Okay, here we are. No magical stories like ” How I gained 100 followers in a night.” or ” I got $1000 just from content writing.”

Cruelly, less than 300 visitors were visiting the website, and even Google hasn’t put me into its organic search lists. And just 50 followers on my Instagram account and 70% of them are my friends.

I didn’t earn any extra money from this kind of hustle side. Actually, I have paid a few hundred dollars for the website host, plugins and Grammarly. I also spent many weekends sitting in front of the desk with the sacrifice of lying with my cat.

Sounds frustrating, right?

If we see these negative sides, you must think I should quit it.

However, when I count how much stuff I have done this year, I feel satisfied with them.

I have built a personal website and also upgraded it once.

Written 29 articles in English.

70 posts on Instagram, and I also find a clearer way to present my thoughts.

Compared to others’ success stories, they seem nothing. But I can feel I am moving on with these tiny steps, even though I am still unsure where I will head off.

I also learnt some concepts about personal media and social media marketing strategies and found a different perspective on the fashion industry. Also, I have done a lot of research to improve my content, so I got a more comprehensive view of business management, technology with fashion, and environmental issues.

Some people may feel stressed when they see slow progress than others’ success stories. I did feel the same and had a feeling of self-doubt. I was even scared about others’ sarcasm, especially since I suffered from gaslighting in another working environment.

So, this journey is not just about exploring my capacity but also the one to figure out myself. And there are always some angels sent by the universe to give you the indication.

Therefore, I recently saw a friend who just starts her third new job in a year. She transferred from a project planner in a company implementing projects for the government, then an interior stylist assistant, and now a social media curator. I asked her what she felt about this position she hadn’t done before. She just told me, ” I don’t have to compare to other social media accounts or the curator before; I just have to do slightly better than yesterday. That is enough.”

What a clever way of thinking about comparison! We are always afraid of being compared to others or the person before us. But every day, we just have to do slightly better than we were yesterday, which means improvement already.

James Clear, the Atomic Habits author, says, “Success is not a goal to reach or a finish line to cross. It is a system to improve, an endless process to refine.”

So, let’s just enjoy the process!
